Movie Review: Gone Girl

                                                               Gone Girl
                      Release Date: October 3, 2014
 Directed by: David Fincher
Based on the book: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
Starring: Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry

I've been meaning to watch this movie for awhile. The book is raved about throughout the booktube & blogging community. I knew I would never read the book because I'm not a huge fan of thriller novels ( because I'm a huge wuss) but I knew I would be able to watch the movie.
I will admit I did go into the movie somewhat knowing what the end was because I just heard about it but I didn't know the exact details of how it all took place.

I loved this movie!
That's saying alot because I'm a huge wuss and hate thriller movies. Yes this was a thriller movie but it was more unraveling a mystery if you will. I loved watching Ben Affleck going through the struggle of trying to figure out what happened to his wife.

Ben Affleck has never been one of my favorite actors but I really enjoyed him in this. I also thought Rosamond Pike performed well. All the people in the movie did amazingly!

David Fincher also directed The Social Network & The Curious Case of Benjamin Button which both are movies I really enjoyed so I knew he would do well with this movie.

SPOILERS AHEAD (DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ OR WATCHED THE MOVIE)

Man oh man was this movie a puzzle. I knew ultimately that Amy was not dead, rather that she had 'staged' her death and was trying to frame her husband for it. I did not know how she went about it, and how far she was willing to go. Amy is full on crazy. Crazy that needs to be checked into a ward kind of crazy.
I wish we knew more on Amy's back story. What made her this way? I would love if the author wrote a book about it because I would def. read it. Amy is a complex character that needs to be delved into further.

Overall, if your looking for a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat, look no further!

If you read Gone Girl & saw the movie, what did you think of it?
Was it a faithful adaptation?

  1. I read the book first before watching it, and the author explained briefly why Amy behaved that way (it's not explained much in the movie) :)) However, I still think the movie adaptation stayed true to the main story. I also reviewed the movie on my blog ;))
