After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another.

Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

I finally read this book! It had been sitting on my shelf for a long time & I finally got around to reading it and I am so glad I did!

This book was just AWESOME! I loved the main character, Celaena & her wit and just overall strength! In fact all the characters were amazing. I loved reading Captain Westfall and Dorian and of course there is a love triangle already forming!

What side of the triangle do I fall on? I must admit I am a Captain Westfall girl but I do enjoy Dorian as well but ultimately I like Captain Westfall a little bit more!

The action in this book was amazing as well as the mystery! I thought it was going one way but it went in the complete opposite direction which I loved.

I am so glad to have read this because it is in the fantasy genre, which I need to read more of. Lately I've been in a contemporary binge and wanted to get out of it and this book did the trick!

I did knock off a star because it took a little bit for me to get into to but once I got into it, I fell in love with it!

If your looking for an awesome fantasy series look no further! This one had it all! Action, awesome characters and some romance!

I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

  2. Yes! I totally love Celaena and Chaol but Celaena's awesomeness is something I admire. More character development in the second book plus it gets much better.
